Gay Internet Users More Likely to Blog

APRIL 24, 2008
Gay adults are much more active in the blogosphere compared to their heterosexual counterparts, according to a March 2008 Harris Interactive-Witeck-Combs Communications survey.

More than half (51%) of US gay adults surveyed said they read some type of blog. Only 36% of heterosexual respondents said the same.
In addition, 27% of gay respondents had posted a comment on a blog in the last month and 21% had written a personal blog post in the past month. Just 13% and 7% of heterosexuals surveyed did the same, respectively.

"Studies consistently show that gay Internet users are leaders in online usage, are very keen to find relevant and timely information, and feel more strongly about staying on top of latest trends," said Wes Combs, president of Witeck-Combs Communications.

"Blogs are fast shaping the media landscape, and it is one medium that marketers and advertisers can’t afford to ignore, especially when it comes to reaching gay and lesbian influencers, voters and consumers."

Western Europe IPTV Continues Surge
APRIL 22, 2008

Analysys Research forecasts that by 2013, the number of IPTV households in Western Europe will reach 16.6 million, up from 5.8 million in 2007.
As a result, IPTV households will grow from a 6% market share of the Western Europe pay-TV household market to a 15% share in 2013.

The increases are due in part to service providers aggressively discounting and re-positioning IPTV services as entry-level packages.
In Western Europe, IPTV revenues will grow from €600 million ($822 million) in 2007 to €2.3 billion ($2.8 billion) in 2012. Because of the discounting, IPTV revenues will account for only 8% of pay-TV revenues in 2013, despite a 15% share of households.

IPTV advertising, which harnesses the mass-market advantages of broadcasting and the targeting capabilities of the Internet, will be one way to address this gap.
